ILUS & Cambodian Porridge

I LOVE YOU, STUPID!

Oh no no no... don't get me wrong. I am not calling anybody stupid but yes I love all the visitors to my blog. The above is the title to a novel that I am reading at the moment, written by non-other than the famous Melur Jelita. Her first book, a thick one too, is Awak Suka Saya Tak, which I've finished reading too. I am not a fast reader as time is not on my side. But I will carry the book wherever I go and will read whenever I have the time to spare.

I am on page 365 now.. and yet a long way to go. Mind you, the page that says TAMAT on it is on page 1389!! You can do it mama!! Chaiyok chaiyok...

What I can say when reading Melur Jelita's books, there are so much information in it. We are not only reading a story but actually learning something at the same time. And I like that very much.

Thank you Melur Jelita for the lovely stories and not to mention the useful informations... I look forward to finish reading ILUS as I think I am part of IRIS now... the nice part that is... hahahaha.....

One of the recipe that Melur Jelita had provided in her book is Bubur Lambuk Cham style. The recipe cam be found on page 291 and 292. I googled the recipe and came across this 'Bubur Nasi Kemboja' in Fiza Damia Yummy blog and decided to give it a try. It is more or less the same like the porridge that I've done before with a slight twist here and there. Nevertheless, I love it and my daughter does too.

To the Cambodian people out there, my sincere apologies if the recipe is not the same as your original recipe but according to Fiza, she got this from her relative who is a Cambodian. Thank you Fiza for sharing it with us...


CAMBODIAN PORRIDGE

Ingredients :

1 cup rice - washed and rinsed
2 pieces chicken fillet - cut to small chunks
1 piece carrot - cut into cubes
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 chicken cube
2 tablespoons fish sauce
1 inch ginger - julienned
2 cloves garlic - knocked
3 shallots - sliced
Enough water

To garnish :

1 bowl of bean sprouts - washed and rinsed
1 fresh red chillie - sliced
Salted soya beans (tauchu) - I omit this
Spring onion - chopped
Chinese celery - chopped
Crispy fried onion


Method :

1. Place all the ingredients for porridge in a pot with enough water and let it cook until the rice is soft and smooth. Add more water if the porridge is too thick.
2. Add salt if necessary.
3. Serve the porridge with bean sprouts, fresh red chillie, spring onion, chinese celery and crispy fried onion.

    1. Sebenarnya ramai yang dok promote buku citer ni Asyifa. Sedap ceritanya dan penuh informasi. Kebanyakannya berkisar di Kemboja. Mama yang tak pernah sampai sana, terasa macam berada di sana pulak... terasa cemana derita orang di sana... Membuatkan mama rasa bersyukur sangat dengan keadaan kita di sini.... Allah hu Akbar...

    Nice teapot,cup and saucer, very elegant.

    Pengsan aku if ask me to read such a thick book, maybe take forever pun tak boleh habis. Last time rajin read Anna Karenina, woman of substance, etc... now tak larat nak read but instead zzzzzzzz after few pages.LOL

    1. Hi Amelia... kalau still ada, I won't mind passing you the whole pot. But sorry to say, finished already! Hehe... The set, my hubby brought back from Bangladesh when he went there 5 years ago...

      Haiya, why want to pengsan. We read when time permits la... syok oo... but then, jiwa kurang tenteramlah if we HAVE to stop at the suspense part... hadoi... housework boleh lupa buat oo... hahahaa....

      I dulu baca love story, buat cross stitch sampai housework pun lupa nak buat. hahaha
      Sekarang tak larat nak back buku tebal2x, mata rabun. Cross stitch pun sudah slow down, mata sudah nampak cross. hehehe

    3. If you tak fussy, then no problem cooking for you. Tapi you don't request yang pelik-peliklah. I mana pandai masak. Tapi kalau you just want this bubur, then no problem la.. bisa di atur! Haha....

      I pun crazy about cross stitch dulu. Tapi masa I buat those big projects, I jahit dalam bus. I travel to and fro ke tempat kerja by bus. Took me about 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach my destination... 5 days a week. So you can imagine those precious time i spent in peace dalam bus, stitching!! And the best part is, I made a lot of friends sebab orang hairan, how i can sew in a moving bus! If my pattern paper flew or if my gunting or benang jatuh, people know who to find...Hahaha....

      But nowadays, i pun kena guna mata 4 to read. Cross-stitching pun dah lama tak buat. Rindu la....

  5. Wah, saya pun beli gak novel I Love You Stupid. Dah sampai bab baper tak ingat lak. Tapi saya suka novel tebal2 ni. Dah baca sampai part yang Zainab nak dikahwenkan tu dgn ustaz apa tu? Uztaz hameed tak salah. Budak zainab tu baru umur 14 tahun dan Ustaz tu umur 70 tahun...Tak pasan lak dalam tu ada citer pasal resipi..nak kene tgk balik ni..:-)

Nanti bercuti bosan takde benda nak baca..huhu...bukan senang nak cari novel melayu yang macam ni..:-)

    7. Cuba kuatkan hati tu... jangan baca buku bila dengan En Hubby. Lainlah kalau dia tengah buat kerja dia, kita duduk sama dengan dia, then barulah baca buku. Bukan apa, takut nanti dia tarik lesen membaca kita nanti... haaa baru melopong! Beringat sebelum terkena! ;)

    1. Waalaikumussalam Marsita. Tak apa kalau baca lambat pun. Mama ni pun, slow and stedy je.. asyik gear 2 je... lom naik gear 3. Sket baik dia tak turun gear 1. Ahahahaha....

      Bubur tu, anak dara mama kata, macam bubur McD... hehehe... pandaikan anak dara mama 'jack' mama dia... hehehe

  11. salam, nice try :), but to be honest, kat gambar nmpk mcm kurang menjadi skit tapi tak tahulah taste mcm mana, sebab ayamnya tak kelihatan sgt, ayam tuh akan direbus asing dari bubur, pastu kita kena keluarkan dan petik ayam tuh jadi kecik2(guna tangan shja), bubur tuh patutnya nampak lebih minyak skit, pastu akan ada bawang putih digoreng kat kuali pastu dan siap bubur baru dicampurkan dengan bubur, pastu masa makan tuh, barulah letak taugeh, daun bawang dan lada hitam(yg siap ditumbuk) kalau tak mkn lagi jgn bubuh taugeh dan daun bawang dan lada hitam awal2, bubur jgn terlalu cair sgt, sy tahu sbb mak ayh sy kemboja, dan bubur tuh bubur paling sedap yang pernah sy rasa... huhu
